CyberJocks: Contracting (2006-2007)
From August of 2006 to September of 2007, my responsibilities changed at CyberJocks. The first two years was spent learning the business and developing systems and infrastructure. The next year after that was spent developing and supporting the Austin location. After that closed, most of my duties resembled that of being a retail manager. I was responsible for things such as bookkeeping, banking, human resources, and ordering supplies for our attached cafe.
Needless to say, my final year at CyberJocks was very difficult. Scott, Aaron and I had constantly been at each others throats. There wasn’t enough money to go around, and our paychecks were fewer and further between. Debbie and I had gotten engaged in November of 2006, and I also had the wedding hanging over my head.
Scott made a bold move in September of 2007 by taking on another large chunk of debt to put into the business. While I liked his concept, I really felt as if the business was destined to fail at that point, and my staying there would only hinder Scott and Aaron’s chances of turning it around. I finally put my resignation in after working with Scott and Aaron for ten years. It was one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make to this date.
